52 Ancestors 52 Weeks: 14th Week Mary Catherine Oyler my 2nd great grandmother

This post is in response to the challenge of posting about 52 ancestors in 52 weeks by Amy Johnson Crow.  Unfortunately this post is several days late and woefully short.

Mary Catherine Oyler is my 2x Great Grandmother and the daughter of Lewis and Mary C. (Roupe) Oyler. I don’t really know very much about this branch of the family and do not know the names of all of Mary’s siblings.  She was the third of six children and the oldest girl. She had one brother named John Valentine and two sisters, Paulina and Lucy Ann. Mary was born December 13, 1830 (or possibly October 13) in Randolph, Charlotte County, Virginia. She and her family moved to Indiana prior to 1840 and in 1850 they lived in Wabash, Indiana. She married Bennett Strait in Wabash, Indiana on April 14, 1850.  In 1856 she and Bennett lived in Iowa with daughter Zenah Ann and son James. In 1854 they had lost daughter Esther Jane at less than one year old. In 1855 their son James was born and between 1856 and 1858 Mary and Bennett moved to Harrison County, Missouri.  Mary Catherine died August 11, 1858 in Harrison County, Missouri after giving birth in July to son Warren Miller Strait. She is buried in Fairfield Cemetery, Sherman Township, Harrison County, Missouri.
