52 Weeks 52 Ancestors: Week 25 John Parker Hale Walton my 2nd Great Uncle

A post in a series in the challenge of posting about 52 ancestors in 52 weeks by Amy Johnson Crow. This will be a very short post since I have been on a trip with little access to the internet for a couple of weeks.

John Parker Hale Walton, my 2nd great uncle was born on August 23, 1853 as the eighth child of Isaiah and Eliza Jane (Hall) Walton. I’d love to know why he received three given names since none of his siblings seem to be so encumbered! There really is very little that I know about John. In the 1860 US Census he appears as a six year old along with his eight siblings. In the 1870 US Census he is 16 years old and living with his father and five siblings. His mother died in childbirth in 1864 and his brothers Dudley and Abraham and sister Rhoda have moved away from home.

Little is known about his activities after John left home but the 1880 US Census lists him as living in rural Sheridan County, Kansas. He is listed as a farmer along with his brothers Abraham, James, Lucius and George.  How long he, or any of the others except Abraham, remained in the area and where he went next is not clear. Unfortunately, the missing 1890 census is no help whatsoever!

On December 29, 1892 John Parker Hale Walton died in Clay County, Nebraska almost two years before his father Isaiah. He must have had some health problems but I have no information about what they might have been. I need to find out a great deal more about him and I feel the search will not be easy.
